There will be more than 1,400 cabins and most will offer ocean views and nearly 90% will offer balconies. Solo cabins are available, as well as beds that reconfigure into a sofa for better use and more space on sea days. Eight ships with a gross tonnage of more than 100,000 each are set to debut this year, according to a consolidated order book by Cruise Industry News. These ships are so massive that they dwarf the Titanic — which was once the largest ship in the world — several times over. The Titanic, in comparison, had a gross tonnage of 46,329. After an initial transatlantic voyage from Southampton, England, to Galveston, Texas, Carnival Jubilee will sail seven-night voyages to the Western Caribbean out of Galveston.

The new Body & Soul Spa features five ocean-view saunas, a sun terrace with three jacuzzis, and a tepidarium. Over 30 free exercise classes are offered each week in the Sport area, or train solo in the open-air gym. The first of AIDA’s ships to use liquefied natural gas (LNG), AIDAnova has nearly zero emissions. AIDAcosma‘s unique features include the Ocean Deck, a four-story relaxation oasis with an infinity pool and panoramic ocean views. As an EVO ship, MSC Seashore offers improved technology to increase efficiency and reduce her carbon footprint. The energy-efficient equipment includes an advanced wastewater purification system and Safe Air, a new sanitation system that eliminates viruses and bacteria.

Ships are getting significantly "beefier." These massive gains are found in both height and width. Some of the largest ships in the world have 20 total decks and span 167 feet from side to side (later measured in the "beam" metric). At just 67,000 gross tons and a guest capacity of only 1,200, there’s no denying that Oceania’s Vista is small. However, what the small, new cruise ship lacks in size, it makes up for in style.

Detailed itinerary plans for the cruise have yet to be announced by Virgin. MSC Group is the parent company of MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys, as well as the Mediterranean Shipping Company. The latter, also known simply as MSC, is the largest container shipping company in the world. Classic Oceania eateries that will be on board the ship include the line's signature Polo Grill steakhouse, Italian-inspired Toscana and upscale Asian outlet Red Ginger.

BOLDER AND BIGGER

The Norwegian Joy has a construction date of 2017 and a total size of 167,725 gross tons. The ship measures 1,094 feet (333 meters) in length and falls in line as number 25 among the 30 largest cruise ships in the world. At full capacity, the Norwegian Joy holds 5,625 passengers. That includes 3,804 cruise vacationers and 1,821 staff members.

The Mediterranean is seeing record-breaking cruise capacity in 2023, with over 170 vessels sailing in the region throughout the year according to the 2023 Cruise Industry News Annual Report. Royal Caribbean decides to add their magnificent Central Park feature. Whether the vessel has 100 guests or 1,000, the marginal expense is essentially $0 for each additional passenger taking advantage of that space. Adding more passengers adds a clear impact to the bottom line.

Wonder of the Seas is the fifth ship in the popular Oasis Class and is 235,600 GT’s. She carries 5,734 passengers (based on two per cabin) with a total guest capacity of 7,084. Wonder of the Seas is the first ship in the Oasis Class to feature 8 neighborhoods with the addition of the new Suite Neighborhood. She also received other design enhancements to the Windjammer CafĂ© and other areas and is the first ship to include the popular restaurant, The Mason Jar.

The Celebration cruise ship, which is fueled by cleaner burning LNG, has 20 decks and 2,687 staterooms and suites. Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas is the flagship of the Oasis class. It made its maiden voyage in 2009, offering 18 total decks (16 guest decks) along with 2,801 staterooms, almost 2,000 of which have balconies. Like the other Oasis-class ships, she’s organized into neighborhoods, but with the addition of an eighth unique section. This new neighborhood is dedicated to suite guests, with a plunge pool and bar as well as the suites-only Coastal Kitchen and Suites Lounge. The ship is an astounding 21 decks high (there’s a deck 22, but cruise superstition skips deck 13), four decks taller than the largest cruise ship in 2023.

Growing up, she had the privilege of traveling frequently with her family and fell in love with cruising after sailing on the Oasis of the Seas her freshman year of high school. She wanted to pursue a career that highlighted her passion for travel and strengths as a writer. Construction of the brand-new vessel took over 900 days, and the delivery was met with a celebration with cruise line executives, crew members, and shipyard employees present.

It'll be run completely separately from its sister brand, MSC Cruises, which caters to a mass-market audience. Resilient Lady will initially sail in the Mediterranean before repositioning to Australia for the winter (where it'll mostly cater to the Australian market). Fares start at $455 per person for a two-night voyage out of Melbourne, Australia. As for decor and amenities, Oceania has promised an "evolution" of the intimate, residential-style interior venues for which its ships are known. The space ratio of a ship is considered a measure of how upscale it is, with higher space ratios typically corresponding to more luxurious vessels.

Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas ranks as the fifth largest cruise ship in 2022. She’s the second (and smallest) of the Oasis-class ships. The namesake of the Meraviglia class of cruise ships, she was the first to offer an expanded dining experience with fourteen restaurants, including a whopping four complimentary main dining rooms. Celebrity chef Carlo Cracco was enlisted to improve the quality of the ship’s cuisine. It's interesting to look at the average ship length versus tonnage. While new vessels today are nearly 5x the gross tonnage as decades ago, ship length has increased roughly 2x.

RC is going to optimize for the greatest number of people feasible in the available space. The fourth ship from Virgin Voyages, Brilliant Lady will follow the same design as its predecessors. Icon of the Seas was originally expected to debut at the end of 2023, but now the ship will begin sailing from Miami, Florida, on seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries in January 2024. This ship will no doubt already be sailing before that, including a transatlantic journey.

To avoid any surprises when you get on the ship, however, it is important that you understand what is and isn't included. The Ultimate Family Townhouse is Royal Caribbean's most expensive cruise ship suite. It's not uncommon to find rates around $80,000 to $100,000 for a family of four.
